Imagine if being a bridesmaid was your FULL TIME job. Pretty crazy, right? Well, apparently not for Sophie Breeze, right hand women to hundreds of brides all over London. For a couple years, Sophie has been hired by brides, mother-of-the-bride(s), and more to assist and become a bridesmaid for stressed out brides. She is a discreet way to help out the wedding party and plan practically the whole wedding. In short, she's pretty much a wedding planner in a cute dress, and I am HERE for it.
The Secret Bridesmaid by Katy Birchall, that is what we are reviewing today, my friends! This book has definitely made my list of my favorite comedy-romance novels. As mentioned up in that little paragraph up there, Sophie Breeze is a professional bridesmaid. She is hired to pose as a friend to London brides and help with behind the scenes stress, along with planning the perfect wedding.
From a friend, Sophie is recommended to the the "It Girl" of the 1970's, Lady Victoria Swann, who then hires her to be the bridesmaid to her daughter, Lady Cordelia Swann. This wedding could change Sophie's whole career, as it is the wedding of the year. However, Cordelia is an absolute diva and has it out for Sophie.
Sophie, though, is determined to not let Cordelia Swann deter her. Working for Cordelia becomes a complete nightmare, and one of the only things that is keeping Sophie going is Cordelia's dream of a brother, Tom Swann.
He is also completely, 1000% off limits. There is also the fact that he has no idea her real identity thanks to the whole secret bridesmaid thing. In short, she can not have any sort of relationship with him.
As Sophie deals with Cordelia the Bridezilla and her feelings for Tom, things start to fall apart BIG TIME. Another high-society wedding booked on the same day, secrets uncovered, and drama that could rival Riverdale.
Easily, this book is something you can't put down. The characters are hilarious and so lovable that you could die.
The story never has a dull and some parts can and will make you stop "mid-pee" (if you read the book you'll get it).
I give this book a 4.5/5, but only because it starts off a teeny bit slow. It's an amazing story and I definitely recommend to anybody, but especially the happy romance lovers.
Til next time, my friends!
